In The Mist of Dying, P
art One, The Beloved: (duet)
The dance is about the sad losses caused by war. The scene opens with a mortally wounded soldier lying on the battlefield.
In the haze between living and dying he remembers his wife, their love and their last encounter and the argument about his going into battle. The connection between them is deep and tender, but worried over his safe return she alternates like a flickering light bulb, between being connected and pulling away. When he shows her that he is strong, confident and looking forward to the battle, her worry escalates erupting in desperate anger.
He soothes her as best he can then her image fades, and he is left once again alone, dying on the battlefield.
